David Earl Hyde, 38, of Fulton, Mo., was in the process of helping with the unloading of large metal pipes from a trailer. A pipe came off the trailer and landed on him, the State Patrol said.
Hyde died at the scene near Hwy. 169 and the south ramp to Londonderry Drive, the patrol said.
Edina police and fire were called at 2:36 p.m. Monday to a "medical emergency" at the construction site on Hwy. 169, said city spokeswoman Kaylin Martin.
The site has been under construction since January to replace both sides of the Nine Mile Creek Bridge, a 3,000-foot expanse over marshland, into a causeway.
