A freight train struck a pickup truck on the Iron Range that went through a stop sign, sending three teens to the hospital, authorities said.

The collision occurred about 4 p.m. Saturday at the tracks on Skibo Road near Pine Street in Bassett Township, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office said.

Injured were two teens who lived nearby, 19-year-old Tyler Tedrick, of Virginia, and 18-year-old Lonny Callender, of Hoyt Lakes. Also hurt was a 14-year-old whose identity was withheld.

All three were taken initially to Essentia Health's Northern Pines Hospital in Aurora. Authorities have yet to disclose their conditions.

"It appears that the pickup truck did not stop at the tracks, but drove through the stop sign" and was struck by the northbound Canadian National train roughly 40 miles east of Eveleth, the sheriff's office said in a statement.
