Winfield, the son of former Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield, is a consensus three-star defensive back who also had reported offers from Missouri, Northwestern and Purdue.

Winfield reportedly ran the 40-yard dash in 4.27 seconds last June at an Ohio State camp. The 5-10, 185-pound Winfield started his high school career at Eden Prairie before transferring to The Woodlands, Texas.

The Gophers now have 20 players committed for the Class of 2016. (Note: I lost count there for a while, but the number is indeed 20 now.)

Winfield announced his decision on Twitter:
