The 34-year-old man who apparently drowned in a community pool Thursday night suffered a medical emergency while swimming laps, authorities said.

Police and paramedics were called to the Eden Prairie Community Center at 16700 Valley View Rd. about 8:30 p.m. Efforts to resuscitate the victim failed, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital about an hour later.

The pool was reopened Friday after an inspection by the county.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
