Originally envisioned as an idyllic community of German immigrants, New Ulm shows its heritage through architecture, the chime of the downtown glockenspiel and the Schell's Brewery, one of the country's oldest family-run brewers. It's also the best place to learn about the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862 through the Brown County Historical Society and downtown walking tours.
