Brainerd man killed in head-on crash

The State Patrol is investigating a head-on collision that killed a Brainerd man.

The man, 30, was westbound in a pickup truck on Hwy. 210 at milepost 131 at 1:40 a.m. on Monday in Crow Wing County when he crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound semitrailer truck. The pickup landed in the west ditch and rolled, the patrol said.

The victim, Richard D. Van Horn Jr., was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

Truck driver Richard Poole, 58, of Superior, Wis., who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Crow Wing County Medical Center in Brainerd with noncritical injuries, the patrol said.
