Gophers running back Shannon Brooks was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday, along with Michigan safety Jabril Peppers.

Brooks rushed 17 times for 176 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 41-13 win over Purdue. That's the most rushing yards for a Gophers freshman running back since Laurence Maroney put up 179 on Illinois in 2003.

Brooks is the first Gophers player to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors since Chris Streveler on Sept. 22, 2014.
