Tria Orthopaedic Center has signed on as the newest tenant of the former Macy's building in downtown St. Paul and the title sponsor of the ice rink being built there for the Minnesota Wild.
Tria will lease 6,000 square feet of space at the new Wabasha Center for a "state-of-the-art orthopedic clinic offering acute care, sports medicine, sports surgery, rehabilitation services and physical therapy," according to a release.
"Having Tria in downtown illustrates the exciting nature for the development, our other tenants and the city of St. Paul," said Randy McKay of developer Hempel Cos. in a statement.
Hempel has partnered with the St. Paul Port Authority to redevelop the building, which takes up an entire block at Wabasha and 6th streets and has been vacant for years.
Last December, the Wild announced Wabasha Center would be the site of its new practice facility and include a rooftop skating rink that now will be called Tria Rink. The rink, which will also be open to the public, is expected to open this fall.
Tria, which has locations in Bloomington and Maple Grove, has served as the official medical provider for the Wild since the team's inception.
"We're excited to deepen our long-standing partnership with the Minnesota Wild and the commitment to our community by sponsoring the Tria Rink," Tria Chief Executive Edward Craig said in a statement.
Last week, the St. Paul Police Department was given City Council approval to also lease space at the building.
