MoneyGram CEO resigns MoneyGram International Inc., the money-transfer company that posted a second-quarter loss of $33 million, said Executive Chairman Pamela Patsley will assume the additional role of chief executive, succeeding Anthony Ryan, who resigned. "It was a mutual decision between him and the board," said Lynda Michielutti, a spokeswoman for St. Louis Park-based MoneyGram. "The transition is effective immediately." Ryan, 46, who joined MoneyGram in 1995 and became CEO in June 2008, also resigned from the board of directors.

Minneapolis Fed gets acting president The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis named James Lyon acting president to succeed Gary Stern, the central bank's longest-serving policymaker and a critic of bank bailouts. Lyon, chief operating officer, will lead the Minneapolis Fed until a successor is named, spokesman David Fettig said. Stern's tenure ended Monday. The committee leading the search for a new president is headed by James Hynes, chairman of the Minneapolis Fed's board.

Southwest plans flights to St. Louis Southwest Airlines will begin offering service between Minneapolis-St. Paul and St. Louis starting early next year. The airline said it will offer two nonstop flights daily starting Jan. 10. Those tickets went on sale Tuesday. Southwest entered the Twin Cities market in March with eight daily flights to Chicago's Midway Airport. In May, it added three nonstop flights to Denver.

Edina Realty parent buys Chicago agency HomeServices of America Inc., the Minneapolis-based parent of Edina Realty, bought a Chicago agency amid signs of a recovering real estate market. HomeServices acquired Koenig & Strey GMAC Real Estate from Brookfield Residential Property Services, according to a statement by HomeServices, which didn't disclose the terms. Founded in 1961, Koenig & Strey has 21 offices and about 900 agents in the Chicago region. HomeServices is controlled by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
