C.J.: Jared Allen is engaged

November 20, 2009 at 3:00PM

Jared Allen is engaged.

At least that's what he told Minnesota's most prolific blue-ribbon-winning baker, Marjorie Johnson.

Johnson interviewed Allen today at Winter Park for a "Twin Cities Live" segment scheduled to air Monday. I had heard that Johnson was scheduled to interview Allen, however, the main focus of my chat with her was about her being flabbergasted to win Martha Stewart's first pie contest. She baked her Almond Toffee Pecan Pie on TV with Stewart Tuesday.

"I said to him, 'Are you single?' He said No, I'm engaged," Johnson told me.

"I said 'Really, when are you getting married?' And he said In May and so I said, 'What's her name?' And he said Amy. I said 'Is Amy here in Minnesota?' and he said No, she lives in Arizona. Then I asked him what he was going to do with all his millions and he said he was saving them or something."

Johnson said Allen told her he already had a house in Arizona.

Didn't I tell readers that Allen, aka the "Sax Machine," seemed like a man in love when he got huffy with me in October for shooting video of Amy in a public place?

At that time Allen described Amy -- there's no official confirmation that this is how she spells her name -- as the "love of my life."

Now, what I didn't disclose when I wrote about this in October was what Allen said when I asked when he was getting married.

"I don't know what you mean," he said. Since he had gone all hunter/protector on me in defense of Amy, I told him that he clearly liked woman. Maybe he should marry this one?

"We'll see what happens," he said.

Now, I didn't disclose those quotes back then because I didn't want to create a problem between Jared and Amy.

After writing about Allen apologizing to me for being aggressively protective of Amy because "Some people just aren't comfortable on camera," according to him, I learned that she had played a prominent role in an episode of his FOX Sports North. Because I thought his claim that she was camera-shy was disingenuous, I posted the link so that everybody could get a good gander at Amy.

According to various sources, Allen is now FURIOUS with me.

The loud thumb-sucking and pouting I've heard about has gone to a level that suggest Allen's behaving like a very spoiled Big Baby.

As fans and broadcasters search for a nickname for the Vikings defensive line of Pat Williams, Kevin Williams, Ray Edwards and Allen -- one that will be as compelling as the nickname of their predecessors, "The Purple People Eaters" -- may I suggest one?

How about "Three Men & a Big Baby"?

Congrats on the wedding.

A Vikings spokesman confirmed that Allen got engaged "a couple months ago."
