A Stearns County man changing the oil in his car was crushed to death when the vehicle slipped off the jack in his garage, authorities said Tuesday.

The wife of Gary Glein, 58, arrived at their home just north of St. Joseph about 2:20 p.m. Monday and found her husband pinned under the car in their garage, according to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office.

"He had a floor jack to lift up a Chevrolet HHR and took off the passenger side wheel to change the oil," read a Sheriff's Office statement. The car landed on his chest, the statement continued.

Glein was head engineer at Oak Hill Elementary School at the time of his retirement in 2014 after 25 years with the St. Cloud School District.
