A 90-year-old convicted sex offender was caught at the Edina municipal pool exposing and fondling himself in front of teenage girls, according to prosecutors.

Lloyd K. Rudy, of Eden Prairie, was charged with felony fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct in connection with the incident last Tuesday at the Edina Aquatic Center.

When Rudy was arrested, he had with him a bag containing three sex toys, according to the criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court.

Rudy, wearing a bathing suit, sunglasses and a ball cap, was handcuffed, arrested and jailed that afternoon. He was released three days later after posting bond.

His attorney, Steven Coon, declined to address the allegations but volunteered on Monday that his client "lost his wife of 67 years about a year ago."

Two girls, ages 14 and 17, told police they saw Rudy fondling himself and "looking around the pool area," the criminal complaint said.

When questioned by officers, Rudy acknowledged touching himself while watching "pretty ladies" at the pool, the complaint read.

Rudy was convicted in 1983 on a charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. Because of that conviction, Rudy was charged with a felony in the current incident.

According to a police report from last week's incident, Rudy told an officer that the earlier conviction was for exposing himself during a garage sale. He said he pleaded guilty then to keep his name out of the news media.
