Four times in two days a man entered a Casey's General Store in Chisago County this month and bought thousands of dollars of prepaid gift cards. All the purchases were fraudulent, police said.

The suspect allegedly used a skimmer or electronic card reader to steal account information and passwords from credit cards, then created new debit cards with the same pin numbers. He used those cards to buy more than $10,000 in gift cards, said Scott Thomas, an investigator with the Wyoming Police Department.

Video cameras at Casey's Gas stations in Wyoming, Stacy, Chisago City and North Branch captured the transactions that occurred on July 10 and 11. The man is seen using stolen cards while victims still had the physical cards in their possession, Thomas said.

On Wednesday, authorities posted photos on Facebook in hope of generating leads to catch the suspect, who has used multiple stolen cards to buy gift cards. Most of the cards were valued at $500. One victim is out $3,000, Thomas said.

The suspect also used stolen cards in several other cities around that time frame.

The man is described as between 25 and 30 years old and about 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 10 inches, with a dark complexion, slender build and puffy beard, Thomas said.
