Joe and Maddie Mauer were recognized for their philanthropic efforts when the St. Paul high school from which they graduated dedicated the fieldhouse in honor of the longtime Minnesota Twin.

The ceremony Monday at Cretin-Derham Hall High School for what is now called the Joe Mauer Field House was attended by the Mauers, family members and friends.

A plaque at the Catholic school's fieldhouse includes an illustration of the couple, both 2001 graduates born and raised in St. Paul. It notes that their "philanthropy is reflective of their deeply held commitment to compassionate service, and includes support for organizations dedicated to education, developmental disabilities, health care, and youth athletics."

Joe Mauer was a three-sport star in baseball, football and basketball as a Raider before he joined the Twins organization. Maddie Mauer was a high school swimmer. They live in Mendota Heights and have 2-year-old twin girls, Maren and Emily.

The fieldhouse holds three full-size athletic courts, a 10,000-square-foot fitness center, athletic offices and locker rooms.
