Crossroads Mall stabbing timeline
3 p.m.: Dahir Adan returns home from his shift working as a security guard. He was not scheduled to return to work until 10 p.m. When his family asked why he wasn't out of his uniform and sleeping, as was his normal routine, he said "He had work to do tonight."
6:44 p.m.: Adan texts his boss to tell him he can't work that evening.
7:48- 7:54 p.m.: Adan shops in the SuperAmerica convenience store, where he is known as a regular customer. "See you later," a store employee told him. "You won't be seeing me again," Adan replies.
8:02 p.m.: Adan returns to his home.
8:07 p.m.: Adan leaves his apartment for the Crossroads Center mall.
8:09 p.m.: Adan is involved in a hit-and-run with a bicyclist. He did not stop or attend to the rider. Police would later discover a cracked windshield and the bicyclist's glasses on the car.
8:10 p.m.: Adan is observed running a red light at the intersection of 29th Avenue and 2nd Street
8:13 p.m.: Adan arrives at Crossroads Center mall and parks in the south lot.
8:14 p.m.: The first of 94 calls to 911 is received. Soon after, Adan stabs his first two victims, a man and his pregnant girlfriend, outside the mall's southwest entrance, then runs inside.
Just inside, Adan stabs his next two victims in the corridor. Sometimes he asks if they are Muslim, sometimes he says nothing.
Adan stabs three more victims along the corridor.
Outside Unique Electronics, Adan stabs a father and a son.
A clerk of Unique Electronics wanders toward the store's entrance to investigate the commotion. In an incident captured on video, Adan enters the store and stabs the clerk at least twice. His knife bends and he reaches for his second one as the clerk scrambles away.
Fifty feet down the hall, Adan stabs another victim outside Northwoods Candy Emporium. An employee sees the commotion and hears screams to take cover before pulling down the security gate. Adan lunges toward the gate as it goes down, then moves on.
The glass doors at Target are locked after employees heard the commotion, so Adan moves toward Bath & Body Works. Adan stabs a 12th victim before approaching Officer Jason Falconer, who is leaving the store. Adan asks Falconer if he is Muslim. Falconer says no.
As Adan turns away, Falconer sees the knives in each hand. Falconer identifies himself as a police officer and orders Adan to stop. Adan takes off into Macy's in the mall's southeast corner. Falconer follows with his gun drawn.
Adan first gets on the floor, then charges at Falconer. Falconer fires the first rounds and falls over as he backpedals to avoid Adan. Falconer displays his badge and identifies himself as a police officer.
Adan gets up and again advances at Falconer and is shot again.
Adan attempts to get up a third time. No shots are fired. Adan dies of blood loss after he is shot six times.
