When Linda Leverty bought a dashcam four months ago, she hoped to record wildlife that often crosses the roads near her home in rural Longville, Minn. What she captured instead was a motorcyclist's crash into an unsecured load on Interstate 94.

The June 18 video footage shows Brendan Jankowski, 20, colliding with a rolled-up foam pad after it flies off the back of a boat pulled by an SUV.

"I don't want to see something like that again," Leverty said by phone on Tuesday.

She was driving east on I-94 near Woodbury when the dark SUV towing a boat passed her on the left.

The video shows the rolled-up pad hurtling off the back of the boat. Jankowski, of Hudson, Wis., enters the frame and tries unsuccessfully to swerve.

He hits the big pad head-on, which flips his motorcycle into the air and flings him onto the pavement in the left lane. The SUV never stops.

Jankowski, who was wearing a helmet, spins over repeatedly and somehow manages to get himself to the left shoulder of the highway.

"It totally surprised me that he was able to stand up and walk to the side of the road," Leverty said.

State Patrol and Woodbury fire and police departments responded to the crash at 1:40 p.m. Jankowski was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he was treated for minor injuries, according to the State Patrol.

Investigators are still looking for the driver of the SUV.

Republicans across the country benefited from favorable tailwinds as President-elect Donald Trump resoundingly defeated Democrat Kamala Harris. But that wasn’t the whole story in Minnesota.
