Texas A&M transfer Davonte Fitzgerald has committed to the University of Minnesota, a source with knowledge of the situation tells the Star Tribune.

Evan Daniels of Scout.com first reported the news.

The Gophers had one scholarship remaining in their 2015 class after releasing big man Jonathan Nwankwo from his National Letter of Intent last week due to external academic circumstances.

Fitzgerald, a 6-7, 210-pound forward, averaged 3.5 points and 1.6 rebounds in 9.6 minutes a game as a sophomore with the Aggies, his role diminishing with greater depth after a freshman season that saw him average 7.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 15.7 minutes a game before he was sidelined with a knee injury.

The Atlanta native will have to sit out next season per NCAA rules before resuming his final two years of eligibility.

He joins a class that includes fellow transfer Reggie Lynch, guards Jarvis Johnson, Kevin Dorsey and Dupree McBrayer and wings Ahmad Gilbert and Jordan Murphy.
