Donnie Brooks has been named the new athletic director at Macalester College. Brooks comes to the St. Paul school from Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., where he had been director of athletics and recreation.

Brooks, a 2002 graduate of Springfield College, previously was an assistant athletic director at Dartmouth. Before that, he was a faculty member, administrator and assistant football and lacrosse coach at Williams College.

He came to Williams in 2006 as part of the NCAA's Division III Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship grant program.

Brooks worked with current Macalester men's basketball coach Abe Woldeslassie at Dartmouth, who cited Brooks' "passion, work ethic and ability to connect with others" as making him a good fit for his new job.

Brooks, who starts in January at Macalester, replaces Kim Chandler, who was dismissed by the college in June for undisclosed reasons.
