A driver strayed into the opposite lane on a northwestern Minnesota highway and died in a head-on collision with a street sweeper, authorities said Friday.

The crash occurred about 9:45 p.m. Friday about 20 miles southwest of Crookston on Hwy. 75, the State Patrol said.

The sweeper was heading north when it was struck by a southbound car driven by Jayden M. Anderson, 19, of nearby Ada. Her car crossed into the larger vehicle's path, the patrol said.

Anderson was thrown from her car despite having on a seat belt and died at the scene, while the sweeper's driver, 41-year-old Eric L. Olsen of Wahpeton, N.D., suffered minor injuries, according to the patrol.

An online fundraising campaign has been started on behalf of Anderson's family to cover funeral costs and other expenses.
