A Fox 9 news reporter is recovering after losing part of her leg in a boating accident last week.
Fox 9 news reporter sharing her story about losing lower leg in boating accident
Courtney Godfrey and her husband, Ryan Novaczyk, were boating on Christmas Lake on Sept. 15 when he made a sharp turn and she was thrown overboard. Her foot became entangled in the boat's propeller.
"It was a freak accident," she said Friday shortly after leaving the hospital. The propeller took off her foot but she said doctors had to amputate part of her lower leg.
"It's traumatic," said Godfrey. "It changes things for you — at least briefly."
But the 30-year-old Godfrey said she's looking to the future.
"I may have lost a leg, but I'm still me. I'm not going to let this get me down," she said. "I'm not going to let this stop me from being who I am or who I was before the accident … from snowboarding, to wakeboarding to rollerblading to reporting the news."
Godfrey has been with Fox 9 for two years.
