Gophers third-string quarterback Jacques Perra plans to transfer to another school, with his landing spot to be determined, he told The Star Tribune on Thursday.

The former Roseville star will have three years of eligibility remaining if he moves down a level to the Football Championship Subdivision or lower.

"I got my permission to contact to other schools from compliance so now it's just a matter of weighing my options," Perra said in a Twitter direct message.
Perra will have three years of eligibility remaining and won't have to sit out a year if he transfers down to the Football Championship Subdivision or lower. He said he's considering FCS schools, as well as schools in the MIAC.
As a senior at Roseville High School, he was named the Star Tribune Metro Football Player of the Year, as well as the Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year. He joined the Gophers as a preferred walk-on in 2014 and climbed to third on the depth chart that fall and redshirted behind Mitch Leidner and Chris Streveler.
Perra looked like he might challenge for more playing time during spring practice this March but entered camp with a sore elbow.
This season, after Streveler moved to wide receiver, Perra was third on the depth chart behind Leidner and freshman Demry Croft. With Leidner handling most of the load, Croft was limited to two full quarters of action, and Perra saw his only college action against Purdue on Oct. 10.
The Gophers have since landed a quarterback commitment from former Oregon recruit Seth Green. Coach Tracy Claeys has already talked about Croft and Green getting the majority of the reps in spring practice, while Leidner recovers from a pending foot surgery.
