Border czar Tom Homan said a “withdrawal of law enforcement resources” is in the works. Trump indicated otherwise Thursday night.

White House border czar Tom Homan said a plan is in the works to reduce the number of federal agents in Minnesota. But he stressed the need for cooperation from the state to make that happen.

“The withdrawal of law enforcement resources here is dependent upon cooperation,” Homan said at an early morning news conference Thursday.

Then, Thursday night, when asked if he planned on pulling immigration agents out of the state, President Donald Trump said, “Not at all.”

Trump sent Homan to Minnesota to lead immigration enforcement efforts on the ground. His arrival comes less than a week after the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, which sparked new criticism of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

Here’s what else you need to know:

  • Two agents involved in the fatal shooting of Pretti have been placed on administrative leave.
    • Minnesota leaders spoke at a CNN town hall. Attorney General Keith Ellison said the identities of the federal agents involved in Pretti’s shooting should be released.
      • More than a week before he was killed, Pretti was tackled by federal agents after he cursed and flipped them off as they drove by, according to bystander video obtained by the Minnesota Star Tribune.
