Got an idea to inspire the St. Paul arts community?

Try applying for the Knight Arts Challenge, which will offer a share of $1.3 million for the best idea to support and enrich the arts in the capital city.

Provided by the Knight Foundation, the money is open to anyone as long as they have an idea relating to the arts that would take place in St. Paul or otherwise benefit the city.

"We want to hear what local artists, organizations and businesses believe are the best ideas to inspire, engage and advance St. Paul," Victoria Rogers, vice president for arts at the foundation, said.

The application is due Friday, April 28 at 11:59 p.m. and only requires 150 words.

The challenge is in its fourth year. So far it has provided $3.5 million to individual artists, organizations, and nonprofits for projects including a traveling flash mob of flamenco dancers, a poetry slam for spoken-word artists, and a competition for screenwriters.

Recipients do have to find funds to match the Knight commitment.

The application is available at knightarts.org.
