Just listed: Ironclad hotel, apartment project approved by city of Minneapolis
On Tuesday, the Minneapolis Planning Commission approved the site plan and conditional use permit to allow for the complex. Minneapolis developer Graves Hospitality wants to redevelop the parking lot on Chicago and Washington avenues into a few buildings.
A 148-room, eight-story hotel will include two levels of underground parking. A 171-room, 14-story apartment building will have retail space on the first floor. During a second phase, four additional stories will be added above a two-level parking structure for 20 townhouses. Offices that had first been proposed for the development have been scrapped. There will be about 390 parking stalls in the entire project.
The name "Ironclad" refers to an iron-reinforced grain elevator that used to be on the site. Construction is expected to begin in the spring, said Josh Jansen of St. Paul-based Collage Architects.
Sons of Norway site in Minneapolis' Uptown put on the market
The Sons of Norway has determined it's time to find a new home as the cultural organization puts its Uptown property on the market and begins the search for a new headquarters.
After more than 55 years at its location at West Lake Street and Holmes Avenue near Lake Calhoun, the Sons of Norway has put its 60,000-square-foot building and parking lot up for sale. The property is made up of five separate parcels and could offer potential developers more than two acres of prime real estate in the heart of the busy Uptown neighborhood.
"With all of the momentum in the Uptown area, now is the time to market our property and focus on creating an exciting new home for our employees, where we can serve our community, members and stakeholders for decades to come," said Sons of Norway Chief Executive Eivind Heiberg in a statement.
CBRE is marketing the property as well as helping the organization find a new space for its more than 40 employees.
