Thrivent wants to construct a 12-story, 152-unit apartment building along with a 10-story, 133-room hotel on the southern half of a parking lot on 7th Street between 5th and Portland avenues where Thrivent Financial plans to build its new headquarters.
A two-story podium, with a day-care center on the ground level and a fitness facility on the skyway level, will connect the buildings. A two-level underground parking garage is also part of the plan. A central court that Sherman's development will share with Thrivent will be used by both pedestrians and drivers.
Detailed renderings and plans were submitted to the city for discussion at next Tuesday's meeting of the planning commission's committee of the whole.
Sherman, which plans to open an extended-stay hotel, has submitted an application for a hotel brand, but nothing has been finalized yet, said Shane LaFave, director of multifamily development at Sherman.
