A two-vehicle crash late at night on the Iron Range killed two people and injured several others, authorities said Sunday.

The collision occurred about 15 miles east of Hibbing, Minn., about 11:55 p.m. Saturday on Hwy. 169 at County Road 25, the State Patrol said.

Killed were 26-year-old pickup truck driver Jason M. Gates of Superior, Wis., and 7-year-old Snowden E. Bothwell of Hibbing, who was in a car caught up in the wreck.

The car was going west on Hwy. 169 and the pickup was going south on County Road 25 when the two collided in the intersection, the patrol said.

A passenger in the pickup, Joshua W. Johnson, 24, of Superior was hospitalized and is expected to survive, according to the patrol. Alcohol use by Johnson had been detected at the scene, the patrol said.

Driving the car was 39-year-old Maegen R. Hunt of Hibbing. She also was hospitalized and expected to survive. Hunt had not been drinking, the patrol said.

Others in the car, all from Hibbing, were Avery A. Bothwell, 15, who suffered life-threatening injuries; and Samuel H. Bothwell, 4, and Kaelen M. Dolinsek, 19, with less serious injuries, the patrol said.
