A 24-year-old man was charged Tuesday with murder in an attack on a north Minneapolis resident who was found dead in his garage.

Rondell R. Camp, whose current address is unknown but who has lived in north Minneapolis recently, was charged in Hennepin County District Court with second-degree murder. Camp remains held in lieu of $1 million bail ahead of a court appearance Wednesday.

The medical examiner identified the victim Tuesday as Steve Parker Sr., 56.

A 911 call to police late Sunday afternoon brought officers to the garage at Parker's home in the 3700 block of Aldrich Avenue N., where they found his body. The defendant's car also was in the garage.

There was a large pool of blood under Parker's head, and a box wrench was found under his shoulder, the charging document read. Blood was splattered on the car and elsewhere.

According to the criminal complaint:

As Camp was screaming in pain while crawling in the alley with an injured leg, he told police about a dead man in a garage nearby.

Parker had numerous cuts to his head, several broken bones in his face and a large stab wound to the left side of his neck. He also had what investigators determined were several defensive wounds on his hands.

Witnesses said they heard a loud argument coming from the garage, where Parker often repaired vehicles.

Camp, taken to North Memorial Medical Center by paramedics, reportedly told relatives there that he was going to jail.

State court records show Camp has been convicted of minor drug offenses.
