One person was found dead early Tuesday inside a home ravaged by fire in Duluth, authorities said.

The blaze broke out about midnight in the small home in the 4500 block of Cooke Street, according to Assistant Fire Chief Chris Martinson.

Flames "traveled throughout the home, causing very extensive fire and smoke damage," Martinson said.

Firefighters using a thermal imaging camera found an unconscious male person inside.

The firefighters brought him outside, and "he was given the best of lifesaving efforts, but he succumbed to the effects of the fire," the assistant chief said.

More than 20 firefighters were needed to bring the blaze under control. Authorities have yet to address what ignited the fire.
