A 33-year-old Blaine man has been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the shooting of two men in the Near North neighborhood of Minneapolis early Tuesday, police said.

According to police, the suspect was arrested at the scene and booked into the Hennepin County jail on suspicion of second-degree assault and weapons possession. He was being held without bail Tuesday morning pending charges.

The Star Tribune typically doesn't name people who haven't been charged with a crime.

Officers found the two victims — ages 36 and 18 — sometime between 1 and 2 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of W. Broadway Avenue and N. 2nd Street, an industrial area just west of the Mississippi River. Both men were taken to North Memorial Medical Center with injuries that were considered nonlife-threatening, a police spokesman said.

Police arrested the suspect at the scene, using force to subdue the man, according to an incident report.
