More than 13,000 prospective volunteers have submitted applications to be part of Super Bowl 2018.

The Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee needs 10,000 volunteers to show up at the event. But to start they need 13,000 as a cushion for the inevitable dropout rate of about 30 percent.

As of Friday, the committee reported receiving 13,221 applications, 90 percent of which came from Minnesota, according to spokeswoman Andrea Mokros. The application process will continue into summer.

Of the applicants, 60 percent are women and 40 percent are men. Mokros said the average applicant is a 46-year-old woman.

Not surprisingly given that the game will be played at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis, most of the applications came from the Twin Cities area.

The committee needs enthusiastic, customer-service oriented volunteers for a variety of jobs. Interviewers and trainers will be the first on board. During the 10-day event, greeters at the airport and concierge-type helpers on the streets will be needed. (No volunteers needed inside the stadium.)

Each volunteer is expected to work three shifts ranging from four to six hours. Those who fulfill their duties will receive valuable souvenirs including a high-grade winter parka, backpack, thermos and beanie.
