Authorities on Wednesday identified the 14-month-old boy who fell into a pool over the weekend behind his family's Maple Grove home and drowned.
The Hennepin County medical examiner's office said Gavin Dennison, who was taken by emergency responders Sunday morning from the home in the 7300 block of Orchid Lane to a nearby hospital, died from an accidental drowning.
A family member started resuscitation efforts at the scene before officers took over, police said.
One officer reported to emergency dispatch that police were unsure how long the boy had been underwater.
The medical examiner's office and the Sheriff's Office water patrol are investigating what led to the toddler ending up in the pool.
