A woman died early Friday in a fire at her home in Austin, Minn., police from the Mower County city said Saturday.

Firefighters pulled her from the burning house, but she died at the scene, police said. A preliminary investigation points to a cooking fire, said Austin Police Det. Todd Clennon.

No one else was injured. The Red Cross is helping the woman's five children and a grandchild who also lived in the home but were not present at the time of the fire, Clennon said.

The victim's name has not been released.

A man heading to work noticed flames coming out of the top of the home on the 1600 block of 4th St. SW. and unsuccessfully tried to enter the smoke-filled home. He then called 911.

Fire and police responded about 5:30 a.m.

The home, owned by the city's housing and redevelopment authority, was severely damaged, Clennon said.

"At this point, there is no foul play suspected and the investigation continues," he said.
