A man led officers on a car chase from Waseca County west into Blue Earth County at speeds of over 100 miles per hour Friday night, all with a 1-year-old buckled into a child seat in the car's back seat, authorities said Saturday.

The 21-year-old driver was arrested after the pursuit, according to the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Department.

A Janesville officer spotted a 2010 Mercury Milan blazing west at about 112 mph on Waseca County Road 2 at 11 p.m. The driver did not stop when the officer and a Waseca County sheriff's deputy attempted to pull him over, and entered Blue Earth County on County Road 15.

The pursuit continued at a slower pace down the main street of St. Clair. The driver then headed west on County Road 90 and pushed to speeds over 100 mph, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The Waseca County deputy forced the man to drive into a ditch as he attempted to turn north on another county road. He was arrested and taken to the Waseca County jail, where he will be held pending charges.

Officials found a 1-year-old child buckled in a child car seat in the car's back seat, according to the Sheriff's Department. The child had no apparent injuries.

The State Patrol will investigate the pursuit and crash, which left the suspect's vehicle and sheriff's patrol car with minor damage. Officers also received assistance from the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office and Mankato Department of Public Safety.
