Wet, heavy snow falling across most of the Twin Cities metro area Friday evening made for a longer commute time for many drivers navigating the suddenly slippery roads.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 5 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen. An inch or two is expected to fall through Friday evening. Areas of the extreme west and north metro saw up to 4.4 inches, which was reported near Fridley, with 4 inches near Buffalo.

During the evening commute, Metro Transit tweeted that 48 percent of it buses were running late at 5:30 p.m.. The average delay time was 9 minutes, it said.

Almost 90 minutes later, service had improved to only 25 percent of buses delayed an average of seven minutes.
