VETERANS DAY 2017 Events in Twin Cities

A sampling of events around the metro area. All events are on Saturday.

Bloomington: Noon to 6 p.m., Mall of America rotunda: Ultimate Chef Challenge, pairing military personnel with chefs from megamall restaurants. MRE (Meals Ready to Eat) will be incorporated into their dishes.

Inver Grove Heights: Veterans Memorial Community Center, 8055 Barbara Av. Official state Veterans Day program. Free breakfast from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Program at 10 a.m. Speakers Douglas Bradley and Craig Werner, authors of "We Gotta Get Out of This Place: The Soundtrack of the Vietnam War," as well as Luke Heikkila, producer of "Minnesota Remembers Vietnam" for TPT. A bald eagle from Wabasha's National Eagle Center will be on display.

Minneapolis: 2 p.m., Minnesota Veterans Home, Building 19, 5101 Minnehaha Av. S. Guest speaker Capt. Gregory Gomer, Navy Medical Service Corps. Music by the Copper Street Quartet and performance by students of Agamim Classical Academy.

Minneapolis: 2 p.m., Hennepin History Museum, 2303 3rd Av. S. Book reading of "One Soldier's Tale" with Vietnam veteran Mark Odegard.

North St. Paul: 11 a.m., Veterans Memorial Park. Rifle volleys and taps.

St. Paul: Minnesota History Center, 345 W. Kellogg Blvd.: Program by Veterans for Peace at 10:30 a.m., bell ringing at 11 a.m. Also, last day of the "WWI America" exhibit. Veterans and active military members admitted free.

St. Paul: 11 a.m., Vietnam Memorial, Minnesota Capitol grounds. Speaker, music and national anthem played by the St. Paul Central High School band. Organized by 173rd Airborne Brigade Association Chapter 15, Special Forces Chapter 20, and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 320.

Stillwater: 11:30 a.m., Stillwater Veterans Memorial. Ceremony with speaker Andy Olson, Stillwater Middle School teacher, former coach and retired Minnesota Army National Guard member. Preceded by downtown salute to veterans.

White Bear Lake: 2 p.m. Dedication of Veterans Memorial next to VFW Post 1782, 4496 Lake Av. S. Speakers and music by Darby Ledbetter.

Woodbury: 11 a.m., Lions Veterans Memorial, 8301 Valley Creek Rd. Speaker John Mansfield, Vietnam veteran. Music by Siouxland Discovery Chorus.
