Saint Croix Vineyards, 6428 Manning Av. N. in Stillwater, is holding its 14th annual Grape Stomp starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, and Sunday, Sept. 8.

Vineyard and winery tours and live music will be part of the festivities.

Grape stomping competitions for both kids and adults will be held at approximately 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. each day. A drawing will be held to determine who will compete in the competitions — entries are made on arrival, and everyone will get a chance to stomp grapes between competitions.

Vineyard/winery tours will take place at about noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. each day (no pre-registration required).

Music from noon to 5 p.m. each day, provided by the Midnight Mo Experience on Saturday, Jonny James and the Hall of Fames on Sunday and by Mike Salovich both Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors Bureau seeks top-notch photos

The Stillwater Visitors Bureau invites shutterbugs to submit two of their best Stillwater images in 12 MB resolution by Oct. 15 for the chance to win up to $300 and to receive recognition in the DiscoverStillwater.com website and in the 2014 Official Stillwater Visitors Guide.

Images can feature all four seasons and must be recognizable as taken in Stillwater.

Music, festivities part of this week's festival

Martin Zellar, former lead singer of the Gear Daddies, will headline a lineup of live music that is part of the all-day Fall Festival at Transfiguration Church and School beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Music, which starts at 11 a.m., also includes Tim Mahoney and Mark Andrew, both contestants on NBC's "The Voice," and other local artists.

The Festival Market starts at 8: 30 a.m., followed by the Holy Soles 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. (registration starts at 8 a.m.) Cost is $10 for adults, $20 for youth, $10 for kids aged 9 and under. Food trucks, rides and games open at 10 a.m. For $15 advance music passes, visit Transfigurationmn.org.

More library hours; Café Philo starting

The Lake Elmo Public Library, 3537 Lake Elmo Av., has added two hours to its public service schedule, for a total of 36 hours open hours per week.

The new schedule adds one hour each on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both of those days. The library is also open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Potential volunteers may stop in the library and pick up an application, or call 651-773-4926 to have one mailed.

Also, Café Philo is coming to the Lake Elmo Public Library starting Wednesday, Sept. 4, and will be open for discussions every Wednesday from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. The group will decide the topic of the day. It is open to all.

This is an outgrowth of the group currently meeting in Bayport. Café Philo was inspired by similar gatherings that began in France in 1992 known as Café Philosophique.

Washington County bluegrass fest nears

The lineup at the 12th annual Washington County Bluegrass Festival, to be held Saturday, Sept. 7, will include several local bands, including the Cactus Blossoms and Boys 'N' the Barrels.

The festival, which will take place at the South Picnic Shelter at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve, is from 3 to 7 p.m. Entrance is free for park permit holders and $5 for others. The Cactus Blossoms perform at 3 p.m.; Boys 'N' the Barrels at 4 p.m.; Roe Family Singers at 5 p.m.; and Kind Country at 6 p.m.

Food trucks and facepainting will also be included in the afternoon activities.

Classes offered for disabled skaters

The Bielenberg Sports Center is offering a class to help people with disabilities perfect their skating techniques.

The class, called "Therapeutic Skating Lessons for Skaters with Special Needs," is open to skaters of all skill levels. Classes are offered from Sept. 14 through Oct. 19 and then again from Nov. 2 through Dec. 14.

The registration fee for the first session is $66, while it costs $76 to sign up for classes in the second session.

Classes will take place 10:20 to 11:20 a.m. Students can register on the arena's website or by calling 651-714-3740.
