An 87-year-old man was killed in a collision with a semitrailer truck Tuesday morning in northwestern Minnesota, the State Patrol said.

The patrol said Arvin Dahl, of Middle River, Minn., had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Hwy. 59 and NE. 190th Street in North Township around 8:20 a.m. He then failed to yield the right of way to a semitrailer truck heading north on Hwy. 59 and struck the truck as he entered the intersection. The impact pushed Dahl's vehicle into the east ditch of Hwy. 59, the patrol said.

Dahl, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Sanford Medical Center in nearby Thief River Falls where he died.

A passenger in his vehicle, Marvel Dahl, 87, also of Middle River, was taken to the same medical center with life threatening injuries, the patrol said.

The truck driver, identified as David Loe, 62, of Browerville, was not hurt, the patrol said.
