A man who went missing Sunday night while camping with his wife at the Dakota County Fairgrounds was found dead Wednesday morning just outside the grounds in Farmington, the Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of 61-year-old Bruce Peterson of Montana.

Sheriff Tim Leslie said it's too early to say whether foul play was involved.

A searcher retracing where others had been looking came upon Peterson about 9:30 a.m. in woods near a fence line just to the southwest of the grounds, Leslie said.

Peterson was last seen shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday by his wife, Dawn. He told her was going to have a cigar. His wife woke up the next morning and he had not returned. His wallet and other possessions were still at their campsite.
