Sorry Metallica. No matter how loud a noise you make with your music and with your announcement Wednesday of the first ever rock concert at the new U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Aug. 20, you've just been trumped.
McCartney adds second Target Center concert for May 5; ticket sales start today
Paul McCartney is going to one-up you. After announcing Wednesday morning a Target Center concert for May 4, Sir Paul is adding a second show for May 5 due "to popular demand."
Maybe readers are amazed that the demand was so high since tickets don't go on sale until Monday — or 10 a.m. Thursday for American Express cardholders.
"Basically we had an overwhelming response like we've never seen before," said Target Center spokeswoman Anna Barberio. "Calls, emails, group requests... All signs led to Show No. 2."
We're guessing two concerts were always in the plan but only Garth Brooks announces multiple shows at once. Maybe McCartney just wanted two days worth of buzz.
Tickets, priced from $47 to $252, will go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday at AXS.com and 1-888-9-AXS-TIX. Tickets will not be available at the Target Center box office.
In 2014, McCartney performed 39 songs in nearly 3 hours in front of 39,000 people at Target Field as part of his Out There Tour of stadiums. This year's trek is his One on One Tour, which is visiting arenas, including Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. on May 2.
The ageless Beatle, now 73, last performed in a Twin Cities arena in 2005 at Xcel Energy Center; tickets were priced from $49.50 to $250. So apparently inflation hasn't affected rock's richest singer.
On his current tour, McCartney will be accompanied by his bandmates of the past decade or so — keyboardist Paul Wickens, drummer Abe Laboriel Jr., bassist/guitarist Brian Ray and guitarist Rusty Anderson.
