Former St. Cloud State assistant coach Garrett Raboin has joined the Gophers as an assistant under new men's hockey coach Bob Motzko, and longtime Minnesota assistant Mike Guentzel is no longer on the staff, sources confirmed Wednesday.

Scott Bell, the other assistant under former Gophers coach Don Lucia, remains on staff and is under contract through the 2018-19 season.

Raboin, 33, has a long relationship with Motzko, both as a player and assistant coach. The Detroit Lakes, Minn., native spent the past six seasons at St. Cloud State as an assistant and was a three-year captain as a defenseman for the Huskies from 2006-10, helping lead them to three NCAA tournament appearances.

He did not apply for the St. Cloud State head coaching job when Motzko left for the Gophers.

Guentzel, 55, spent the past seven seasons as associate head coach under Lucia during his second stint on Minnesota's staff. From 1994 to 2008, he was a Gophers assistant coach under Doug Woog and Lucia.

The Marble, Minn., native was a Gophers defenseman from 1981-85, and as an assistant coach helped Minnesota win NCAA championships in 2002 and '03 and reach three other Frozen Fours: 2005, '12 and '14.

Lucia stepped down on March 20 after 19 seasons as Gophers coach, and seven days later Motzko was announced as the new coach.
