Minnesota United-Atlanta United gameday preview
Preview: With the forecast temperature at kickoff Saturday hovering in the teens and low 20s, it's possible this second game between United (2-2) and Atlanta (2-1) at TCF Bank Stadium could break the year-old league record for the coldest match at 19 degrees that these teams set at TCF Bank Stadium last season. But the Loons would rather re-create the most recent 3-2 victory at Atlanta this past October than the snow opener. The game, originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, was moved to avoid conflicts with fans' Easter plans.
Quotable: "It was samba football, just everybody wanting to attack and press forward without the right kind of balance. And playing a team like Atlanta that has loads of talent up front, and people running behind the line, you get exposed. And that's kind of what happened last season. So we don't want to do that again." – Midfielder Rasmus Schuller on last season's 6-1 home-opening loss against Atlanta.
Numbers: Atlanta attacker Josef Martinez leads the league in goals (four) and Miguel Almiron leads in shots (22). Just 23 games into his MLS career, Martinez is also one hat trick from tying the league record at five. His first came against the Loons a year ago.
Absences: For Atlanta, M Ezequiel Barco (quadriceps), M Andrew Carleton (strep throat), D Franco Escobar (concussion), F Brandon Vazquez (hamstring), D Jose Hernandez (quadriceps) and G Mitch Hildebrandt (knee) are out, and M Oliver Shannon and D Miles Robinson are with reserve team Atlanta United 2. For United, D Jerome Thiesson (hip) is questionable and M Sam Cronin (concussion) is out.
