Authorities have identified the motorcycle passenger who died when an SUV driver lost control and struck two Harley-Davidsons in Oakdale among several that were participating in a benefit ride staged in connection with another motorcycle fatality earlier this summer.

The crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday on Hwy. 120 at 45th Stree N., according to the State Patrol.

Killed was Tonia M. Stocking, 49, of Cottage Grove, a passenger on one of the Harleys, the patrol said. The motorcycle's operator, Steven J. Silva, 53, of Eagan, was seriously injured and taken to Regions Hospital, the patrol said.

A couple from Cottage Grove on the other motorcycle survived, the patrol said. Frank M. Turchin, 46, was operating the motorcycle and was not hurt. His wife, Karla M. Turchin, 52, was recovering at Regions Hospital.

The SUV's driver, Micaah I. Rostron, 22, of Oakdale, was not hurt. The patrol said in a statement that Rostron was heading north on Hwy. 120, "overcorrected and hit … both motorcycles head-on."

The patrol detected no alcohol use among anyone involved in the wreck. Rostron had on his seat belt. No one on the motorcycles were wearing helmets, the patrol added.

The riders were among more than 150 on a group ride to raise money for Rhonda Thill, of St. Paul. Her husband, Randy Thill, 47, died in a motorcycle crash in late June on Hwy. 61 in St. Paul.
