Neal Justin's TV picks for Sept. 15: 'The Mindy Project,' 'Labor Games,' Neil Patrick Harris
"The Mindy Project," the latest network series to be revived by a streaming service after cancellation, may not be among TV's best sitcoms, but it manages to come up with some killer lines, as it does in this season premiere spoof in which Mindy fantasizes she never started a relationship with Danny and instead ended up with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. "It was like 'It's a Wonderful Life,' except it was in color and it wasn't boring," Mindy says. Quips like that will keep us tuned in. Now streaming on Hulu.
Baby on board
The last thing you would think any pregnant woman would want is strangers with cameras barging into the delivery room and turning a blessed event into a game show. And yet, "Labor Games" is kicking off its second season. Never underestimate the desire to be on TV. (A chance to win a $10,000 college scholarship doesn't hurt, either.) 7 p.m. TLC
Everything but the kitchen sink
"Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris" should be retitled with a question mark at the end, since this live throwback to the golden days of variety shows may be the biggest mystery of the network season. Blake Shelton and Harris' former "How I Met Your Mother" co-star Cobie Smulders are expected to participate in the intriguing experiment. 9 p.m. KARE, Ch. 11
