Three pedestrians were struck and killed by vehicles in separate incidents in the metro area in the past two days, authorities said.

A man died from injuries he sustained Monday after being trapped under an Xcel Energy truck that jumped the curb and hit him at 86th Street and Nicollet Avenue, Bloomington Police said.

The Xcel truck was pulling a trailer and headed south on Nicollet Avenue at 6:53 a.m. when it swerved to avoid a car that was making a left turn from northbound Nicollet onto westbound 86th Street. The truck left the roadway, hit the pedestrian and a utility pole on the southwest corner of the intersection, said Deputy Chief Denis Otterness.

The name of the victim has not been released.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident and our sympathies and thoughts are with the victim's family at this most difficult time," said Chris Clark, Xcel Energy Minnesota president.

In Edina, police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed on France Avenue Sunday night.

The victim, a 65-year-old man from Edina, was hit in the northbound lanes of France Avenue near Minnesota Drive near Centennial Lakes Park around 8:50 p.m. The man, whose name has not been released, died at the scene, police said.

The 54-year-old driver who hit the man stopped and is cooperating with police. The driver was not impaired, police said.

The State Patrol is investigating another fatal incident that killed a pedestrian at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday on Hwy. 169 and Belle Plaine Trail in Belle Plaine. An unknown vehicle struck pedestrian Derek Fath, 29, of Belle Plaine in the northbound lanes of Hwy. 169. The State Patrol is seeking more information from witnesses or anyone who knows more about the driver.
