Demonstrators rallying to remember the 45th anniversary of the Attica Prison uprising briefly blocked traffic and light-rail tracks in downtown Minneapolis Friday night.
Protest causes brief light-rail delays in downtown Minneapolis
Replacement buses were called in to ferry passengers. The demonstrators said they were marking the 45th anniversary of the Attica Prison uprising.
The group said it was also demanding that fewer people be imprisoned and that more money go for education.
For a brief time Friday evening, the crowd blocked the Green and Blue light-rail line between the Henepin County Government Center and the US Bank stations.
Metro Transit called in replacement buses to accommodate passengers near those stops, Metro Transit officials said. Shortly before 6 p.m., officials said trains were "on the move in Minneapolis," but that delays might continue.
Just after 6 p.m., the group of about 40 protesters moved away from the tracks and blocked a downtown intersection. They ended the rally with a group photo, then dispersed.
