A few quick news items from Gophers coach Jerry Kill's weekly appearance on 830-AM with Sid Hartman and Dave Mona:

Kill said LT Ben Lauer did in fact have surgery on his left knee. It was a minor procedure, and Kill expects Lauer back at practice this week. When I heard Lauer's MRI came back with good news and a quick recovery time, I had taken that to mean he wouldn't need surgery. My mistake.

Anyway, it shows how fast these guys can come back from stuff now, as it sounds very similar with TE Duke Anyanwu -- minor knee surgery, expected back within 1-2 weeks.

Kill continued to rave about QB Demry Croft, saying Croft is one of the better freshmen he's seen, as far as composure. Kill said RB Shannon Brooks "is going to be a guy that's going to play for us as a freshman." Kill also mentioned CB KiAnte Hardin as someone who will play as a true freshman and reiterated that LB Julian Huff will play this year, too.
