This year's Star Tribune summer serial is "Redemption's Run," a YA/adult novel by Winona native Jane Fredericksen. The novel is set on the sailboats and winding streets of Bayfield, Wis., and is the story of Kacie, a 12-year-old girl who has never known her father but who sets out to find him after her mother dies.

Fredericksen has been working on the book, off and on, for 15 years. She majored in journalism in college and has been working for many years as a free-lance journalist and critic. She has studied writing at the Loft Literary Center.

The summer serial, now in its fifth year, will begin on the Variety cover on Sunday May 28 and will run daily through Aug. 6. It will also be available as an e-book.

Previous Star Tribune serials are "Giving up the Ghost," by Mary Logue; "Savage, Minnesota," by Cary J. Griffith; "Under Ground," by Megan Marsnik; and last summer's "Stone Lake," by Richard Horberg. All books are available as e-books. Go here: ebooks.
