A 32-year-old Shakopee man pleaded guilty this week to second-degree manslaughter in connection with the December 2014 death of his infant son.

Ryan Lee Husemann Sr. will be sentenced Nov. 9. Husemann's 5-month-old son, Ryan Jr., died on Dec. 29 from "positional asphyxia," according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office. Husemann, who pleaded guilty Monday, was arrested and charged in March.

According to the charges, Husemann told police that he had taken the baby into a bedroom and locked the door after arguing with the boy's mother the night before.

Husemann told police he laid the baby on a U-shaped pillow in the same manner he had "100 times before," and insisted he didn't roll over on the child. Husemann said the last thing he remembered was feeding his son while lying next to him on the bed. When Husemann woke up, the child was facedown and not moving, the charges said.

Husemann had been gone for three days before the baby's death and told police he had been using methamphetamine all weekend, the charges said. A blood sample taken from Husemann confirmed the presence of the drug.
