Columbus, Ohio – Seventh-ranked Ohio State scored two goals in the third period to upset the No. 5 Gophers 3-2 on Friday in WCHA women's hockey and extend its winning streak to four games.
Charly Dahl-quist tied the score at 2-all nearly 11 minutes into the final period on a power play. Liz Schepers got the winner several minutes later, at 16:04.
Both of them are among the eight Minnesotans on the Buckeyes squad.
Dahlquist is a junior forward from Eden Prairie; she transferred to Ohio State this season after North Dakota folded its program. Schlepers is a freshman forward from Mound.
The win kept the Buckeyes unbeaten against Minnesota this season. In early October at Ridder Arena, Ohio State won the first game over Minnesota 3-2 on Dahlquist's goal in the third and tied the second 5-5, winning the shootout for the extra point in the standings.
In the overall series, the Gophers still lead 70-10-5.
Ohio State (16-5-4, 9-2-4-3 WCHA) led 1-0 after the opening period on Emma Maltais' goal 1:20 into the game.
The Gophers (17-7-2, 10-5-2) took a 2-1 lead in the middle period on goals by Alex Woken, on a power play at 5:07, and by freshman Grace Zumwinkle at 8:24.
Kassidy Sauve had 31 saves for Ohio State, Sidney Peters 35 for the Gophers.
This was Minnesota's first road loss this season after starting 10-0.
