MANKATO – The No. 4 Gophers women's hockey team scored four goals in 91 seconds of the opening period en route to a 5-3 victory over Minnesota State Mankato on Saturday afternoon.

Senior forward Kate Schipper had two goals and an assist to lead the Gophers (21-5-3, 17-4-3-2 WCHA). She also had three points in the first game of the series, a 5-0 Gophers victory on Friday. The sweep extended Minnesota's unbeaten streak over the Mavericks to 46 games (45-0-1) going back to Dec. 7, 2007.

"We really came out flying there in the first to get that four-goal lead, and that was obviously a big difference in the game," Gophers coach Brad Frost said. "We had a little lull there in the third period, but overall we're really happy with the weekend and looking forward to facing North Dakota and getting back home."

Schipper gave the Gophers a 1-0 lead at 6:50 of the first period. Taylor Williamson (7:23), Sophie Skarzynski (7:43) and Kelly Pannek (8:21) also found the net in quick succession.

Schipper made it 5-0 at 12:18 of the middle period were her second goal.

Starting Gophers goalie Sidney Peters made six saves on seven shots over the first two periods; Emma May made eight saves on 10 shots over the final 20 minutes.

Williamson

Jordan Jackson ended Peters' shutout with her first goal of the season, unassisted, at 14:21 of the second period. Jordan McLaughlin and Demi Gardner scored for the Mavericks in the third.

Brianne Quade had 26 saves for the Mavericks (6-22-3, 3-19-2).
